Inclusive Health
SSHJM has many decades of experience in healthcare. Today, SSHJM predominantly focus on inclusive health, health services and support for persons with disability. SSHJM inclusive health programme aims at equity of access and affordability of quality inclusive health, contributing to improved health outcomes and well-being of people who are excluded, or living in poverty, particularly persons with disabilities.
About this theme
Health inequities arise from unfair conditions faced by persons with disabilities, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and barriers faced in the health system itself. Some persons with disabilities die up to 20 years earlier than those without disabilities. Persons with disabilities are twice as likely to live under the poverty line and almost seven times more likely to experience unmet basic health needs than their peers without disabilities.
