Our
Approach

SSHJM’s Theory of Change is underpinned by a robust and multidimensional approach designed to address the complexities of poverty, injustice, and exclusion.

At the core of SSHJM’s development philosophy is the Missionary Approach to Development Interventions (MADI). This framework reflects our faith-driven commitment to serve the poor, marginalised, and excluded. It is founded on principles of compassion, solidarity, and accompaniment, ensuring that interventions are not only transformative but also deeply human-centered.

SSHJM prioritises Disability-Inclusive Development (DID) in its mission. This approach ensures that people with disabilities are not just beneficiaries but active participants in development processes. By dismantling physical, social, and systemic barriers, SSHJM promotes environments where accessibility and inclusion are fundamental.

In alignment with the global commitment to “leave no one behind,” SSHJM focuses on reaching the furthest behind first. This involves identifying and prioritising individuals and communities most affected by poverty, exclusion, and systemic injustice.

SSHJM champions Locally led Development as a means to empower communities and sustain long-term results. By recognising local knowledge, leadership, and agency, we ensure that programmes are contextually relevant and culturally sensitive. SSHJM’s approach is participatory, engaging communities at every stage of the development process . This ensures ownership, accountability, and sustainability, as communities are equipped to continue and expand initiatives independently.

The Intersectional Approach adopted by SSHJM acknowledges that individuals experience marginalisation in complex and overlapping ways. This perspective informs our strategies to address multiple forms of vulnerability.
