About our work in Uganda
SSHJM Children in Need (CHIN)
SSHJM Children in Need (CHIN) began in 2004 to address the lack of support for children with disabilities in Mukono and has grown into a comprehensive development programme serving the entire district. Today, CHIN supports 108 children through special needs education. CHIN provides inclusive health services including therapeutic care, home-based rehabilitation, and funds essential medical interventions to 200 children with disabilities and their families. Each year, CHIN also trains 175 vulnerable youth in vocational skills and empowers 110 households through climate-smart sustainable livelihoods interventions, and plants 30,000 trees to strengthen environmental resilience. CHIN also operates a learning farm and tree nursery, while actively advocating for disability inclusion, women’s rights, child protection, and community-led social enterprise initiatives.
SSHJM Women and Children First Organisation (WACFO)
SSHJM Women and Children First Organisation (WACFO) was founded in 2004 during the Lord’s Resistance Army insurgency to support internally displaced families in Northern Uganda. Over time, it has grown into a leading multi-sector development organisation serving communities across Amuru District. Working through group-based approaches that strengthen collective action, WACFO supports 960 households each year with sustainable livelihoods, provides clean water access to 1,200 people, and offers inclusive education to 140 children and youth. Its work includes sustainable agriculture, WASH initiatives, climate-resilient livelihoods, a learning farm, inclusive early childhood education, rehabilitation services, skills training, and strong advocacy for child rights and disability inclusion.
